Yesterday storms did in fact pack a punch! As I mentioned in yesterday’s update, I’m back to give a brief update on the timing of tonight into tomorrow’s flooding downpours. This post is limited just to the Tri-State area. For the week ahead, please refer to yesterday’s post https://weatherremarks.com/heat-finally-breaks-storm-timing-for-fireworks-and-steaks-and-update-on-quakes/. First, the good news. The main event won’t be arriving into New Jersey and the rest of the tri-state area until around midnight. However, Hudson Valley gets the appetizer later this afternoon again. This front will also move through Westchester into southern Connecticut later this evening. This will impact folks traveling back home from the Cape in southern Connecticut. For late tonight and all day tomorrow a Flood Watch is in effect for the entire tri-state area. OK let’s talk about timing.

Hudson Valley / Westchester Appetizer

Storms fire up from New Paltz to Newburgh between 6-7 PM traveling . Then moving towards Mount Kisco between 7-9pm on down to Greenwich later in the evening into SE Long Island. Some of these cells could produce over an inch of rain along with moderate wind, gusts, and some bonkers and bolts. These line of storms could exacerbate traffic over the Tappan Zee, I-95 and the Saw Mill later tonight.

As far as the main event, downpours move into New Jersey around midnight lasting off and on through out Monday, perhaps into Tuesday. Up to 2-4″ is possible (with isolated higher amounts). Expect Flash Flooding in the typical flood prone urban areas, especially basements, subways, poorly drained areas.

That’s it for now. Safe travels tonight and tomorrow morning. Enjoy the “cool” down coming! I’ll be back shortly!
