Afternoon weather folks! Just wanted to jump on to provide a quick update on today’s mercury mashing t-storms on this sultry Sunday in the Northeast! Most of the eastern seaboard will fry one more day with temps in the upper 80s to low 90s. Humidity will drive those real feel temps near 100F. If you want some relief, head to the beaches as our natural AC called the AO (Atlantic Ocean) will keep temps in the 70s (even upper 60s along the coast from Boston to Bar Harbor)! It was actually 61F in Kennebunkport, Maine yesterday!! Don’t fret if you hate the heat as this was a short lived sweat fest. After this front passes through later this afternoon into the evening, our last week of May will see much more seasonal and comfortable conditions.
As far as timing on our showers and thunderstorms later today, they won’t be widespread and will weaken as they approach eastern sections of our coastline. Yet some of these clusters of storms will contain heavy downpours, brief yet strong wind gusts and isolated pea size hail. Keep your eye on the sky late afternoon to early evening. The earliest pop ups appear around the DC area between 4-5pm. From 5pm to 8pm, cells start flaring up in western sections of NJ, Hudson Valley, western parts of CT, MA, VT and NH. Downpours become a bit more widespread between 7pm and 10pm in the Northeast. Fortunately, a much cooler, and less humid airmass blankets the Northeast tomorrow and through out the last week of May. The next chance for any precipitation won’t be until Thursday into Friday. As far as the initial peak into Memorial Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday look mainly dry with temps in the mid to upper 70s with possible showers on Monday. I’ll jump back in a day or two with a more detailed Holiday weekend forecast. That’s it for now. Stay cool today, keep your eyes on the sky and Twitter for my timely t-storm warnings. Most of all, remember, weather never sleeps!
