Good afternoon atmospheric audience. Just a quick follow-up from my previous post on Tuesday to discuss tomorrow’s snow event. This storm is limited to the tri-state area, and mainly when everyone is asleep. Folks to the north in Hudson Valley on up to Boston and the Seacoast will see some festive flakes (dusting to an inch or 2 max). This is not a major storm but definitely formidable and plowable in spots. I’ll also detail again our next brief polar plunge, and what’s on tap in the coming weeks.

This will be a Stockton to Sayreville to Sayville on over to Southampton special. This will be a good thump and a dry fluffy snow that may surprise in some spots. Depending on banding features, we could see higher totals across Central NJ and the south shore of Long Island. For my DC followers, you get your 2nd accumulating snowfall overnight of 2-4″! Ok, let’s talk timing and totals.

From west to east, snow arrives into NJ between 8-10pm tonight, becoming steadier and heavier during the overnight hours across the entire tri-state, including Long Island. The system tapers off early to mid morning Sunday. Skies clear during the afternoon, before our next Arctic blast rushes in.

Snow totals will range between 3-5″ in a narrow band across C NJ towards Long Island (see latest NAM and HRRR model’s above). North of I78 in NJ, 2-4″. Models have been trending north. As mentioned, areas under isolated banding features we could see between 4-6″ in spots. As of now that looks like Burlington, Monmouth and northern Ocean counties, plus eastern Long Island.

As I alluded to in my Tuesday’s post, temps tank Sunday afternoon (along with gusty conditions) and right into Monday morning across the Northeast (and even down to Jacksonville)! See Monday morning lows and wind chill values below.

Temps remain below normal this week. A brief warmup into the low 50s is possible at the end of the week before we head into the frozen abyss Christmas week into New Years. I’m trying to drum up a white Xmas but we’ll see.

That’s it for now. I’ll be back shortly with more details for the upcoming travel season, along with further thoughts regarding my mega quake forecast. But in short, unfortunately no change to my Tuesday’s post. Safe travels tomorrow morning and bundle up! Time for a nap as weather, and I never sleep (during storm season).
