Good morning frozen folks! It’s a weee bit chilly outside this morning! Widespread single digits with plenty of well below zero wind chills are at hand (it’s even in the 30s down in the Florida panhandle, and 40s in Orlando, Tampa and Jupiter, topping out only in the upper 50s to 60s in the Sunshine State)! Take a look at the current observations below! Needless to say, the Mercury stays well below freezing the entire day across the Northeast. The Tri-State tops out only in the teens for highs with the rest of New England remaining in the single digits! My details on our up coming storm will be coming out later this afternoon as I’m reviewing all the latest model runs. For those in parts of SC/NC, a very serious ice storm is headed your way, but not commencing until early Sunday morning. As far as up here in the Northeast, things go down hill not until Sunday afternoon to early evening. In sum, for most of NJ, Long Island and coastal sections up to Maine, this is mostly an all rain event. But damaging wind gusts will be the main culprit along the coast. A slop fest as you go further inland is expected with accumulating snowfall the challenge. Indeed a complex storm with our low traveling well in-land. Per my initial post on Thursday, this looked like a I81 Appalachian Mountain special with coastal flooding and beach erosion a big problem due to strong to damaging SSE winds of 40-60mph combined astronomical high tides due to the Full Moon. Time to fuel up on another cup of joe. I’ll be back shortly with all the details. Stay warm!
Thanks for the update Gregg! Possible frozen pipes on the way…again! 🙂
More detailed post coming shortly. Besides the pipes, the big problem will be the back bay’s by you. Big time flooding will be a major issue.
Alexandria VA is icy!
Thanks for including Jupiter in your post. And you are spot on- it’s freeeeeeezing for us Floridians!!
Get used to it for a bit as temps will be below normal for the rest of January into early Feb for the Sunshine State. Also heads-up tomorrow as the tail of our storm hits Florida Sunday morning (Tampa) and midday (you) with moderate to strong gusty t-storms.
