A good morning to all! Life has sort of gotten in the way, hence the lack of weather updates. But I’m back for a brief update and just in time to be in front of severe weather headed for the
Northeast this afternoon. Actually I was writing this post last night during game 7 of the Rangers game (not an easy thing to do, but combining 2 passions was pretty cool). When all of a sudden a massive bonker bolt shook the daylights out of our house and knocked out my WeatherReWifi (yes, that’s the name) with 7 minutes left in the 3rd period, losing 3-2! Seriously? I had to quickly download the 5 day free new streaming service we just got (because FuboTV doesn’t have TBS). Just as I found the station and game on my phone, I caught the game tying goal and the eventually OT win!! Part of wanting to send this out last night was to give sky forecast for the total lunar eclipse. Unfortunately, conditions weren’t favorable as skies were mostly cloudy throughout.
Ok, let’s talk storms. Saturday was certainly a scorcher, especially for New England with the
mercury eclipsing 90F in many spots (Augusta, Maine hit 91F). Fortunately, the incoming cold
front will make way for a much less humid and cooler airmass tomorrow. Today’s line of storms will produce strong to damaging wind gusts (over 58mph) leading to isolated power outages, possible hail and even a tornado watch can’t be ruled out. For the tri-state area, the line moves into the area including NJ, Hudson Valley between 4-6pm (DC between 2-3pm), moving east into NYC and LI between 5-7pm, on north through Mass and CT, then weakening further east to Southern New England from Providence to Portsmouth between 8-10pm.
Temps and dew points drop behind the storm with out the door temps Tuesday morning in the low 50s (upper 40s in spots) and refreshing highs in the low 70s along with sunny skies. Wednesday morning into the afternoon will see the coolest temps of the week across the Northeast (not so for the Southeast with widespread upper 80s to low 90s from Greer down to Gainesville). After seasonal temps for the rest of the week, another Saturday scorcher next weekend ending with a strong line of mercury mashing storms is on tap. Details forthcoming. The last week of May into Memorial Day weekend, I’m forecasting below average temperatures, again with details shortly.
Speaking of Jeopardy, for those who missed my hint in the title, the 2022 Hurricane season is rapidly approaching and may have an early start with potential trouble brewing in the Gulf next week. While still over a week away, the west coast of Florida and the southeastern Gulf states should be alert. First up in that “category” (see what I did there?) is Alex. I’ll also providing an update on this and the upcoming season as well. See the list above, and if your name is there! That’s it for now. Be careful this afternoon, especially if driving. There will be isolated down trees (park away from them). I’ll be tweeting out updates on the timing so turn on your notifications or jump on my website to see my 5 most recent tweets (if you don’t use twitter). Otherwise, have a great Monday, GO RANGERS, and remember, weather never sleeps!
Great photo!
My daughter’s close friend is named Fiona… will we get to F??
Thanks and yes, most definitely!
Thank you for the update! Great work as always. As a Pens fan, I question your taste in sports teams but never your weather forecasts! See you next year on the ice 🙂 🏒
Thanks Maria! It certainly was a great series! It’s been 28 years since our last Cup, so perhaps we’re due!
