Just a brief but important update. As you all can see by now many of the trees are caked in ice in central and northern counties in NJ/NY/CT. Numerous branches and trees are randomly falling from the increasing weight. With temps staying in the low30s, falling below freezing over night and not climbing above the low 30s tomorrow, this is a problem. While all precip ends in a few hours, more concerning are a pickup in winds later this evening (gusting to 20-30mph) and especially tomorrow into Thursday (gusting up to 30-40mph) with the approaching arctic blast. This has the potential to cause many power outages in the central and northern suburbs. The timing is horrible given the arrival of the coldest temps of the season Wednesday night (teens to single digits) into Thursday (highs only in mid 20s) per my post yesterday. Charge your phones, definitely be careful where you park your cars around trees, and be Extra alert when driving in and around your towns.
Most of the main roads and highways are ok, but don’t let that fool you. Sidewalks, driveways and parking lots at food stores, offices and schools are a sheet of ice. Also, there’s the possibility of isolated but dangerous snow squalls tomorrow. Not wide spread but if driving on a highway and caught in one, slow down and make extra space between cars as they cause very poor visibility with quick intense bursts of snow and very gusty conditions. That’s it for now. Stay safe folks!
