Next Up, NH and SW Maine Get Morning Snow Sleet and Ice, Stay Home is my Advice

Posted on February 12, 2025
  • Storm Saturday Night into Sunday
  • Frigid Airmass Next Week
  • Major Storm Threat(s) Lurking

Just a quick take on the timing of tomorrow mornings system in Southern New England. Also wanted to follow up with some initial thoughts on this weekend’s storm. For the Seacoast up to Waterville and over to SW ME, snow moves in after midnight. Picks up intensity before sunrise and just in time to create a slow and hazardous morning commute.

Not a huge snowfall yet another 1-3″ to the add to season totals (plus up in the Whites another 4-8″ from Waterville to Whitefield over to Gotham). Unfortunately, as a warm airmass trends northward, snow changes over to a wintery mix of sleet and freezing rain between appx 8am to 10am (creating slippery conditions). Then changes to all rain around noon before ending early afternoon Thursday.

Total Sleet

As far as the weekend storm I alluded on my Saturday post, while still 72 hours or so away, timing still looks like Saturday afternoon to evening start time. Again, front end begins as snow (possibly all the way down to CNJ but changeover to rain) into early morning Sunday. But looks like a total mess all day Sunday across NH and ME with sleet and freezing rain, not tapering off until the evening hours. Not a travel day at all. Another plowable event is on the table and possible significant ice build up across New England.

Forecasted Wind Chills Next Tuesday!

If this is yet another rain event for the Tri-state area, don’t fret winter lovers. The arctic blast that I alluded to is back for next week. Bundle up Monday and Tuesday and the rest of the week as temperatures fall well below normal. It seems like some of you are taking my advice, at least in New England as salt was sold out 5 different box stores tonight! Plus still lurking for later this month is the B word, so stay tuned and prepared. Otherwise, good night as I must sleep!

Forecasted 7 Day Temp Anomaly next Monday 2/17 to 2/24
