Monday Afternoon / Evening Commute, a Mix of Snow, Sleet and Ice to Boot!

Posted on December 14, 2019December 14, 2019

Good afternoon! While skies remain mainly overcast today with passing showers in the afternoon, be sure to enjoy the brief warm up before we step down to more seasonal conditions Sunday. Currently, most of the tri-state area are seeing temps in the low to mid50s (upper 40s in Nwburbs), rising into the upper 50s and touching 60°F in SENJ and later today (normal high/low: 44°F / 30°F). Tomorrow will be mostly sunny with the mercury leveling out in the low to mid40s.

I will be providing details later this weekend, but as I mentioned in my post last Wednesday that I was tracking some fun and games for this Monday/Tuesday, here’s what’s on the table. A dangerous wintry mix train is traveling from Kansas City (look for a snow filled field for the Chiefs vs Broncos game tomorrow) to IL IN and PA to Balt/DC NJ NYC LI and up to southern NE. For the NJ/NYC/LI area, the Monday afternoon/evening commute is going to be a MAJOR headache. This system will bring heavy accumulating snow on the front end Monday (mid day) before changing over to sleet and freezing rain right into the evening rush, to all rain overnight into Tuesday.

I’ll be back later this weekend with details on timing, amounts and what to expect. But I would recommend planning either not to travel, make alternative plans or expect a lengthy commute Monday afternoon into the evening. Stay tuned!
