Messy Morning up I95 from MD to MA; Followed by a Frigid Friday to a Siberian Saturday and Sunday

Posted on January 19, 2022January 19, 2022

Weather never sleeps! Yes, that’s my closer but honestly, no rest for “wearyremarks” as the active and chilly pattern continues. Just a quick update on tomorrow morning’s brief and narrow, yet commute compromising snowfall. The snow train will travel from Bethesda to Baltimore, up to Burlington and Bayonne, over to Brookville and up to Bridgeport, out to Brockton down to Barnstable. Get ready for social media displaying all the videos and pics of massive delays around DC (the classic varicose veined google maps!).

The boundary that initially sets up from Bethesda to Boston, separating temps in the 40s to the south and 20s to north, will spread rain initially overnight. Yet as the cold presses southeast, precip changes over to all snow by daybreak, between 5-7am. Snow will accumulate quickly leading to slippery hazardous and driving conditions. But it’s quick to exit, moving from the NW to the SE, ending before noon in most places mentioned above.

Euro model forecasted snow totals (more robust)

A general 1-3″ is expected. South of the boundary (central to south NJ), LI, DE, SE VA may be on the higher end of that range. Temperatures plunge into the evening, bottoming out Friday morning in the mid teens across the tri-state area (wind chills of 0°F to minus 10°F), down to the single digits in Southern New England (wind chills of 10°F to 20°F below zero), finally dipping well below zero (wind chills of minus 15°F to 30°F below) in VT NH and ME!

NAM model Thurs 9pm low temps
NAM model Fri 7am low temps
NAM Fri 7am low wind chills!

What follows is a forecasted frigid Friday into a Siberian Saturday and Sunday. That’s it for now. Details forthcoming on what’s lingering and lurking in the atmospheric abyss. I’m sniffing out a possible strong system(s) the middle to end of next week. Notes aside, I did a little storm chasing last Monday morning along the NH beaches and captured some wicked winds (a 51mph gust on my handheld anemometer, yes I’m a geek), rough surf, spillovers and waves walloping the seacoast. A few of my videos were actually shown on 2 news outlets, Boston 25 and NBC Boston nightly news. See my tweets below of the videos. One was also picked up on ABC World News Tonight (see link below, my video is near the beginning of the segment). Pretty cool. Drive slow and safe in the morning and load up on firewood. Ok, off to bed, because WeatherReMarks needs to sleep!

After the initial commercial, my short take is at the 0:27 second mark.
