Memorial Day Weekend Outlook: Storms Next Few Hours, Scattered Storms Saturday, Stunning Sunday, Humid Monday!

Posted on May 27, 2022May 27, 2022

Good afternoon weather folks! Just wanted to jump on real quick to give you an update on today’s severe weather outlook as well as the rest of the weekend ahead. The weekend is certainly not a washout by any stretch of the imagination. Today’s storms especially in the mid Atlantic states will be severe but move through quickly and I’ll address the timing of them in a minute. As far as the rest of the weekend, Sunday and Monday seem to be the best bet with scattered t-storms on Saturday afternoon.

But first let’s discuss the storms that are threatening New Jersey into New York as we speak. Some of these storms will be strong to severe with damaging wind gusts, small hail and heavy downpours. This line is moving north north east at a rapid clip and currently located in Delaware entering SW Jersey shortly. This line will impact Central Jersey Between 4pm and 430 moving rapidly north north east, and entering New York City between 5pm and 6pm on up into lower Hudson Valley. As they travel further northeast into southern New England this line will fizzle out with just quick burst of showers.

NAM Forecasted Saturday 5pm Storms

For Saturday, expect partly sunny skies and very humid with temperatures climbing into the upper 70s to Low 80s throughout the north east. For the tri-state area including New Jersey, New York City, and Hudson County expect the possibility of pop-up showers and/or an isolated thunderstorm mid to late afternoon. For southern New England including CT, Mass, New Hampshire and Maine, a stronger line of late afternoon to early evening thunderstorms move from the north west to south east between 4 and 7 PM. This line will contain strong wind gusts, heavy downpours and potential thunder and lightning.

Sunday Temps!
Sunday Dew Points, Ahhh!

The good news is brings us a refreshing air mass into the region for Sunday which will be a stunner with temperatures in the low to mid 70s with refreshing dewpoints under bluebird skies.

Sunday Cloud Cover (Sunny Skies)

Lastly, for Memorial Day humidity creeps back into the picture with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s under partly sunny skies, yet no precipitation is expected.

That’s is for now. I’ll be back shortly to discuss my June outlook (cooler start) and tropical troubles lurking. Pay attention to the skies this afternoon, especially for those driving home. Expect slowdowns and traffic due to the holiday weekend compounded by this severe line! Be safe, enjoy your weekend. And remember, weather never sleeps!

Just a follow-up, don’t be surprised to be woken up to some late night boomers from Millville (NJ) to Manhattan up to Middletown (CT) from around midnight to 2am!
