February Frenzy: Coastal New England Surprise to Single Digit Highs! Major Storm Lurking Next Weekend….

Posted on February 6, 2026February 6, 2026

Good evening atmospheric audience! Just wanted to jump on with quick note on tomorrow mornings brief burst (isolated surprises in spots), followed by our weekend polar plunge, and thoughts on a possible major NE storm next weekend.

Ok, so in short, a brief burst begins overnight (it’s snowing now across the tri-state) across the Northeast. Only a dusting across NJ, Hudson Valley, and NYC is expected. However, an inverted trough along the coast from Eastern LI, the Cape, and especially Foxboro to Portsmouth (perhaps up to York) could see up 4-6″, possibly much higher amounts, depending on where banding features wind up. Across southern NH from Keene to Manchester, look for general 1-3″. North of Concord to the Whites, just festive flakes (higher elevations may see some accumulation).

00z HRRR forecasted snowfall

Regardless of amounts from Boston to Portsmouth areas, snow does taper off between 1-4pm Saturday.

Polar Plunge!

The arctic airmass rushes in starting in the morning across the tri-state. Temps will be in the single digits out the door and remain there all day! Wind chills will be minus 10°F to minus 15°F!

For New England, surprisingly, it’ll be in the mid 20s tomorrow morning into early afternoon. But temps plunge after dark and join the tri-state in the Alberta abyss! See below for lows and wind chills through Monday. Brutal! Temps do moderate Tuesday into the rest of next week with highs in low to mid 30s.

Aside from a possible clipper that clips New England Tuesday night into Wednesday with a couple of inches, a February Frenzy is on the table. While not all storms come to fruition, my intuition says the atmospheric gears are stirring up trouble. For Presidents’ Day Weekend, we may have ourselves a Major storm in the Northeast. Yes, over a week away and plenty needs to happen. I’ve been tracking this for a bit, but will keep you posted on this one, plus other systems later this month. While it warms up briefly across the US, I’m afraid old man winter is locked in for the Northeast. By the end of March, don’t be surprised to see well above average snowfall across the Northeast.

Thats it for now. I’ll be back on Monday for an update on next weeks possible storm, along with other intriguing tidbits! Go Sammy D! Sorry Pats fans, gotta root for all my former Jets players. There’s nothing else to root for except the yearly off season filled with hope and no losses. Ok, off to bed as weather never sleeps!
