Breaking: Winter Springs Back on Leap Day!

Posted on February 28, 2024February 28, 2024

Just a brief update on this potent cold front surging towards the Northeast tonight. Unless you live under a rock most of you probably know the spring like temperatures that we’ve experienced the last two days aren’t going to last. A strong cold front that dropped tornadoes in Indiana is rapidly approaching the East Coast from Augusta, GA to Augusta, ME. Most of the northeast is currently experiencing temperatures in the low to mid 50s (mid 60s in DC, low 70s in Greer), are under a Wind Advisory with High Wind Warnings on the Cape and western MA. A squall line will sweep across from west to east bringing downpours, and moderate to strong wind gusts which are capable in taking down loose limbs and branches. Isolated power outages can’t be ruled out.

Check Out Crashing Temps!

Get your winter gear ready for the tomorrow morning (Leap Day) as temps tumble back to winter! Expect widespread 30s down to Atlanta to Alexandria up to Asbury Park, 20s from Newburgh, NY to Norwich, CT up to Newmarket, NH, and teens to single digits in the Greens, Whites to the Loaf! And for icing on the cake, if you’re awake between 11 and 2 AM the backend of the cold front is powerful enough for a change over to snow! But any accumulations are limited to parts of upstate NY (Oneonta 2-4″), W MA and elevation dependent regions up north. Don’t be surprised for anyone north of I80 to see some white gold in the AM. Only a couple inches at the most, but pretty cool! Possible brief snow flurries to squalls flakes may make it down to Tri-state Thursday.

Here’s The Timing:

Top Wind Gusts

Watch out for a flash freeze overnight with icy conditions on driveways sidewalks and parking lots in the morning. That’s it for now. I’ll try it be back over the next couple of days with my thoughts on March. Is spring here to stay or is there anything lurking for March madness. Stay tuned and happy leap day to those who celebrate birthdays once every four years. And remember, weather never sleeps!
